Don’t Play Resume Roulette

Resumes. The ever-green hot topic. Essential, boring, played out. Today? No more.

We here at Polaris Talent and The Audacious Resume invite you to join us for a few minutes in a far-off land of resumes, job searching, big tops, and carnival barkers…

*Cue dream-sequence flashback music…*

Step right up ladies and gentlemen and let’s play Resume Roulette!  Try your hand at fate with your University or Tech School resume template! Or worse, an automated Google or Word template…

Oh wait! It sucks. It doesn’t showcase who you are, there’s no story. There’s no color. There’s only fancy line breaks and lists of keywords. Following the templates and archaic thinking of these old-school 90s holdover templates is a HUGE mistake. They are out of touch!

Now, not all colleges and universities are this way! Some are wonderful and catapult you into the professional world with job offers and letters of reference.

Unfortunately, for the majority of people, this simply isn’t the case. Our job as recruiters is to read resumes. Do you want to know a secret? Template resumes get ignored. They’re boring and so vanilla they would offend the dead.

Folks from the old-school style of resume prep which relies on templates have no clue how to get your resume to the top of the stack in this digital, fast-paced hiring world. They are afraid of I and Me statements.

We, on the other hand, want to see your bold and brave accomplishments! We want to be able to say to the hiring manager that they should be talking to you because you’re badass!

*End dream-sequence music, enjoy a slow transition to a lighter, brighter, template-free world*

Your resume should be exactly that. YOURS. It’s about YOU. Recruiters have lots of AI tools which scan for keywords automatically. This is what your LinkedIn profile is for - your resume will be read by an actual person, and should showcase your story like the exciting jewel it is. By the time a person is reading your resume, it should fill in your personality, soft skills, and career journey.

Using a template is fine for a first romp, but companies these days hire People-First, so your resume should lead with You-First.

I hear you asking. ”Okay, so no template. How do I start?”

Worry not. It’s actually way easier than you think. We have a roadmap to resume success ready for you - and get this - it’s FREE!

Our gift to you, because our main objective is to connect you with an easier, more effective way to do things. Download our free resume writing cheat sheet, and if you have questions you can find us on social media where we are happy to lend assistance.
